Maximise the Life of Your Lawnmower with These Essential Maintenance Tasks

If you’re a lawn care enthusiast, your lawn mower is probably your most important tool. But like any other machine, it needs regular maintenance to keep running smoothly and efficiently. Luckily, taking proper care of your lawn mower isn’t all that difficult; it just requires a bit of know-how and a few simple steps. In this blog post, we’ll be breaking down the essential maintenance tasks you should do to maximize the life of your lawn mower.

Regularly Change Your Oil

The oil in your lawn mower helps keep its engine functioning properly and prevents overheating or wear on its internal components. That’s why it’s important to change the oil regularly; usually at least once per season. Before changing the oil, make sure to read your lawn mower’s user manual to determine what type of oil is best for use in your particular model. Once you know what type of oil you need, pour it into the oil fill hole until it reaches the full line marked on the dipstick before replacing the dipstick.

Replace Your Air Filter

A law mower’s air filter plays an important role in keeping dirt and debris from entering its engine and also from causing damage or wear on its internal components. It’s recommended you replace your air filter every 50 hours of use or at least once annually if you don’t use your mower frequently. To replace your air filter, locate it near the top of the engine (it will have a black plastic cover), then take out any screws holding it in place with a screwdriver before removing it and replacing it with a new one. Make sure to check that it’s securely installed before starting up your lawn mower again.

Clean Your Mowing Deck Regularly

Your mowing deck can easily get clogged up with grass clippings, dirt and debris which can reduce its efficiency and affect how well it cuts grass. To ensure optimal performance, clean out any clippings or debris from inside your mowing deck after each use using an old toothbrush or garden hose to remove stubborn bits of dirt or grass clippings stuck inside hard-to-reach areas within its housing around moving parts such as blades or belts. Doing this will help keep your lawnmower performing optimally for years to come!

Check Spark Plugs

The spark plugs are responsible for igniting fuel in the combustion chamber of your engine, which in turn powers up your mower. Over time spark plugs can become worn out or damaged due to normal wear-and-tear, which can cause misfires or difficulty starting up. To check if they need replacing, remove them from their housing and visually inspect them for carbon buildup or damage, such as cracks or breaks, that may indicate they need replacing soon.

Properly maintaining your lawnmower isn’t overly complicated; all you need is a bit of know-how and some basic equipment in order to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.  Taking these essential maintenance tasks seriously can help maximise the life of your lawnmower while also ensuring optimal performance. Additionally, we recommend you bring your mower into us at least once a year for a comprehensive check and service to make sure everything is in good working order.  That way you can rest assured your lawnmower is running perfectly and will last for years to come!
