5 Tips How To Make Your Garden Kid Friendly

How To Make Your Garden Kid Friendly

Summer is for the kids and for the entire family to share time and enjoy each other’s company. Making sure your garden is kid-friendly will not only avoid any nasty accidents but will also improve your kid’s health. Here are the top 5 ways you can do that.

5 Tips To Make Your Garden Kid-Friendly

Summer is here!

And, we all know that means more time the family gets out to enjoy the great outdoors and get a breath of fresh air.

Particularly in the comfort of your own back yard.

Creating a welcoming space in your backyard will not only transform your home but also provides a space that the family wants to be in all the time. And if you have kids, make sure that it’s also a place for them to enjoy while staying safe. Here are 5 tips to do just that:

TIP #1: PICK YOUR GUESTS

Insects and bugs are the keys to any successful garden. The right type of insects can help scare off any damaging insects, they also help with pollination of ornamental flowers and food crops.

While some should be welcomed, there are a few that should be considered harmful and should not be attracted.

Two ways to stop these critters from pestering your backyard is by removing any dying or rotting natural matters like fruits, leaves, grass and more. A dedicated compost bin can help keep unwanted wasps, snakes and spiders out of your play and chill space. Avoid compost piles.

The second way is to set up a bug hotel in your backyard. The good bugs will keep the bad bugs away and will create a haven for the right kinds of insects. For more info on how to create wildlife hotel, click here.

TIP #2: SOFTEN THOSE EDGES

This may be an obvious one but if you own any power tools or any tools that can be a tripping hazard, don’t wait until it’s too late to do something about it. Look out for any objects that are eye-level with your little one.

If you have any wooden objects, soften the edges just to be sure. The trick is to think ahead and remove anything that could cause a hazard.

TIP #3: BUILD A MUD KITCHEN

A mud kitchen is an outdoor setup for your kids so they can pretend to prepare and cook food using any combination of mud, sand or water. Not only does this stimulate and entertain your kids, but it will also help stop them from wandering around the other areas of the garden.

As long as the mud kitchen is well stocked with cups, utensils and more, it can boost their creativity and imagination and keeps them in one dedicated spot.

TIP #4: THROW SOME SHADE

Even if it’s not that hot, UV rays still sneak through so adding shaded areas to your garden can create a safe outdoor space for them to play around without risking any sun damage.

Not only is it great for summer but also all-year-round if you are in one of those sun-soaked places in Australia.

TIP #5: SLIPPERY WHEN WET

As time goes by, your garden may build-up moss and dirt on the pavers, decking and driveways. This build-up can become extremely dangerous when wet.

To prevent this, just give your garden a good scrub every couple of months or as often as you can, best if it’s with a high-pressure cleaner.

Doing so helps you to avoid any nasty falls, trips or slips that might see you hitting the hospital.
